How to Use V:VA Pre-Measured Flower Food for Longer Lasting Cut Flowers

The reality is, not all flowers will live a long time.
Some flowers are old before you buy them -- and some need special care.
Some just naturally bloom for a very short time.
Here is how to make cut flowers last longer and acheive your best flower experience:
Start With The Freshest Flowers
The condition of the flowers you buy has the biggest impact on how long they’ll last.
Look for:
- Healthy green leaves
- Bright, firm stems
- Fresh-looking blooms
Avoid:
- Flowers with heavily trimmed tops
- Mushy or discolored stems
- Any browning on leaf edges
- Any drooping of individual flowers
Flower food helps fresh flowers reach their full potential, but it can’t restore flowers that have already aged significantly during retail shipping or storage.

Just Add Water

Use the amount of water printed on the front of your packet:

Simply:
- Fill your vase with the amount of water shown on the packet.
- Empty the packet into the vase.
- Stir until dissolved.
- Trim stems and enjoy.
Set Up Your Flowers
Use a clean vase.
- Fill with about 2 inches of treated water.
- Cut stems at a 45° angle for maximum surface to take in more treated water.
- Place flowers in treated water.
- Keep flowers cool.
- Change the treated water every 3-4 days
Avoid:
- Drafts/breezes
- Direct Sunlight
Pro Tips To Keep Them Beautiful
This is what we do to all the flowers in our photos:
- Use a clean vase.
- Never let the water become cloudy.
- Recut stems with every water change.
- Keep flowers cool
- Remove fading flowers (one drooping flower spreads a gas that makes other flowers fade faster)
- Change treated water every 3 to 4 days
What more can you do?
- Refrigerate arrangements overnight before a special event (its what florists do). We don’t do this in our tests because its not always realistic but it does work!
- Lightly mist petals to reduce moisture loss. Cént™ restores natural botanical fragrance at the same time.
- Keep flowers away from ripening fruit. This is often a hidden reason grocery store flowers can fade faster than usual.
- Use filtered water if available (minerals in tap water vary by location and can effect your flowers vase life)
What Flower Food
Can't Overcome
- Hot cars
- Heating/air conditioner vents
- Direct sunlight
- Hot rooms
- Flowers left without water
Flower food helps flowers reach their natural potential. Extreme heat and dehydration shorten the life of every flower.
Different Flowers. Different Needs.
Roses, Tulips and Daffodils
No single flower food is the best choice for every flower.
Through our testing, we’ve found that different flower varieties respond differently to different formulas.
Everyday Mixed Bouquets
Flower Boosters Original is designed for the kinds of mixed bouquets most people buy at grocery stores, warehouse clubs, and markets.
These flowers consistently produced our longest average vase life.
Roses and Other Sugar-Sensitive Flowers
Roses, tulips, daffodils, and a few other varieties respond better to Just Blúme™ Weekly Rose Care.
In our testing, Just Blúme significantly outperformed our original formula on these flowers.
If you’re using Flower Boosters Original instead, reduce the dosage by half using the guide below.

Based on in-house testing with commerically available flowers purchased at retail just like you would.
