When it comes to making your home look inviting and beautiful, flowers are a great way to do it.

But, to ensure that your flowers last longer and look great, you need to make sure you choose the right vase too.

Choosing the right vase can be tricky but it is an important step if you want to prolong the life of the flowers.

The first thing to consider when choosing a vase is the size of the vase. You want to make sure that the vase is large enough to hold the flowers, but not too large that the flowers don‘t look as full.

If the vase is too small, it can put stress on the stems of the flowers and cause them to wilt. It is also important to make sure that the vase is deep enough for the stems of the flowers.

If the vase is too shallow, the stems will not be able to stay upright and could bend over and snap.

The next thing to consider is the material of the vase. It is important to choose a material that is non–porous and will not absorb any of the water.

Glass is a great choice because it is non–porous and it also looks very elegant.

But, glass can be fragile and can easily break.

Ceramic is also a great choice because it is durable and comes in a variety of shapes and sizes.

The last thing to consider is the shape and design of the vase. You want to make sure that the shape of the vase complements the shape of the flowers.

For example, if you are using tulips, you would want to choose a vase that is tall and slender. This will help to create a larger base for the stems and will allow the flowers to stand up straight. On the other hand, if you are using roses, you would want to choose a vase that is wider and shorter in order to create a fuller look.

Best Vase Choice

The best vase choice will be the smallest vase size that can easily accommodate your cut flower bouquet. You don’t want to crowd your flowers, but they should not have a lot of room to spare either. Make sure the shape has high enough edges to support the flowers so they don’t have work too hard to stay upright.  Ideally, the material will be glass so you can watch water levels and ensure your flowers do not run dry. 

 Once you have chosen the perfect vase, make sure to fill it up with water and add a floral preservative. This will help to keep the water fresh and will keep the flowers looking beautiful for longer.  

PRO TIP:  don’t drown your flowers in water. Ideally, you only want to cover the stems with a couple inches of water (soaking the stems in too much water can rot your stems before their time and cause your cut flowers to wither and die too soon). This is actually another reason why it is better to put cut flowers in a small vase,  because smaller amounts of water will keep cut flowers from wilting too quickly. 

A small vase will automatically provide a smaller amount of water for the flowers to absorb, thus allowing them to stay hydrated with more nutrient rich water which will keep them alive longer. Additionally, a smaller vase will help to keep the flowers in a more compact arrangement and make them look more attractive.
